Stop Being A Perfectionist and Keep Moving Your Online Fitness Venture Forwards

Feet tied in chains

The perfectionism thing. If you’re waiting for everything to be flawless before you take action, you’re going to be stuck forever. Perfectionism is the drive to make everything spotless and avoid mistakes at all costs, but that could be what’s holding you back.

Perfectionism isn’t about doing your best; it’s about setting the bar so high, all the time, that it becomes impossible to reach. You’re always thinking, “If it’s not perfect, why bother?” That mindset keeps you stuck in place—no growth, no progress.

Why Being a Perfectionist Leads to Procrastination

You’ve got this great idea for your online coaching program, but instead of launching it, you’re worrying about whether your marketing is perfect, your website is flawless, or your photos are top-tier. That’s where procrastination sneaks in. You keep putting things off because, deep down, you’re scared of not hitting that perfect mark. So, nothing gets done. You’re literally paralysed by your own high standards.

You’re Always Going to Tweak Things

Even if, by some miracle, you hit that perfect level today, I guarantee in a month you’ll be changing something. You’re always going to learn, evolve, and tweak what you do as you go along. So, why sit around waiting for perfection? Progress, not perfection—that’s what you need to focus on.

The 70% Rule

Let me tell you about something that works for me: the 70% rule. Instead of aiming for 100% (which, let’s be honest, is pretty impossible), ask yourself, “Is this 70% ready?” If yes, launch it. Move forward. If you wait for it to be 100% perfect, you’ll never get started.

Even if you get something wrong, at least you’re moving. You’ll learn more by taking action than by sitting on the sidelines waiting for everything to align. Every time you act, even if it’s messy or imperfect, you’re learning. And learning means growth.

Why Progress Beats Perfectionism

And here’s another thing about perfectionism—it kills your ability to experiment. If you’re obsessed with getting everything perfect, you’re going to be scared to try new things. You won’t want to test different strategies or make a pivot when something’s not working. Truthfully, if you’re not ready to put yourself out there and make some mistakes along the way, then you’re probably not ready to be an entrepreneur. Building a business isn’t about being flawless—it’s about being resilient.

Yes, you want to avoid the major pitfalls by doing your research, surrounding yourself with the right people, and soaking up the right knowledge. But your journey is going to look different from everyone else’s. You’ve got to be willing to trip up, test things, and occasionally get it wrong.

When we fall into the perfectionism trap, we tend to forget the small wins. And those help to keep you moving forward. As perfectionists, we’re always focused on the big, final goal. But when you start to appreciate the smaller victories—like launching that program, even if it’s not perfect, or posting that first piece of content—you start building momentum.

So, keep pushing forward. Put yourself out there. Learn from the mistakes you’re bound to make. Stop chasing perfection and start focusing on progress.
